Thermally Sprayed Aluminium

TSA for Rail

Thermally Sprayed Aluminium (TSA) or Zinc (TSZ) provides an excellent barrier to corrosion with greatly enhanced impact resistance compared to previous coatings, but it also has a key second method of defence by providing sacrificial protection, even if areas of the coating have been breached.

This is how it works:

The TSA or TSZ rail outer coating becomes a sacrificial anode

The steel being protected (the rail) is the cathode

Thermally sprayed metal oxidises in favour of the rail

Corrosion of the rail steel core is prevented

Key Features of TSA and TSZ are:

  • No mixing is required before application
  • Effective corrosion protection immediately
  • No VOC’s
  • The scarification action of aluminium/zinc prevents corrosion from edges and discontinuities
  • Coating can be applied to longer lengths of rail to protect against corrosion

Key Benefits of TSA/TZA are:

  • Massive reduction in downtime
  • Maintenance free
  • Prolongs the life of your assets
  • Longer lengths of corrosion-prone track, in areas such as wet tunnels and coastal routes, can be protected with minimised installation time and significantly reduced on-site welding requirements
